I want a desktop computer and I am struggling with all the manufacturers website to find a motherboard with following requirements:
- supports UEFI Secure Boot
- has Intel Matrix Storage Technology (aka Intel Raid)
- supports Ivy Bridge 22nm CPUs
- supports up to 32GB or RAM
- supports dual screens and 3D acceleration using preferably onboard Intel graphics
Many manufacturers do state UEFI, but do not say if SecureBoot is available (either out of the box or via firmware upgrade).
The Intel Rapid Storage comes with a few chipsets, but in most series it's an optional feature that may or may not be present.
Any recommendations? Or ways on how to find these details about motherboards?
Try and find a desktop running windows 8. 90%+ will have UEFI and SECUREBOOT that then just leaves you to track the other components you are after. The other thing to do is get onto the tech support prior to purchase to confirm too.

ReplyDeleteHere are two options: The ASUS P8Z77-V LE or the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H. They both meet all of your criteria.
ReplyDelete-Supports UEFI Secure Boot
This is a difficult one to answer, and the best way is to Google for specific motherboard models with UEFI secure boot in the keywords. It's how I verified the above boards have it. For example:
http://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/314/windows8.html
-Has Intel Matrix Storage Technology
Almost all Z77 chipset boards will have an ICH10R paired with it. That's the southbridge you're looking for.
-supports Ivy Bridge 22nm CPUs
Any Z75 or Z77 will support these CPUs. The above motherboard will support even the higher TDP chips. Older Z6x series chipset boards will only support Ivy Bridge after a bios update. Not all motherboards may be capable of being adapted.
-supports dual screens and 3D acceleration using preferably onboard Intel graphics
Verified with the online copy of the motherboard manual, again Googling by motherboard model:
